We are grateful to share our Benedictine meditation and prayer schedule with congregants at the First Congregational Church in Oakland. This sacred space, built in 1927, is a distinguished landmark in the Oakland community. First Congregational is home to performing arts and faith-based organizations throughout the day. The Church also serves as host to a number of community support groups, private dances, dinners, weddings, receptions, meetings, classes, and other special events. First Congregational is located at 2501 Harrison Street at 27th Street, across the street from the Whole Foods Market. Please visit the church website for directions:http://www.firstoakland.org
First Congregational’s sanctuary and all the ground floor offices and rooms are wheelchair accessible.
Entering the Prayer Space
Please park in the lot located behind the Church as there should be ample space. Take the short flight of stairs down to the Church entrance (the door will be ajar). Once you enter the building, you will see a sign pointing to the left. Follow the sign to an open door at the end of the corridor. As you enter the open door, you will see our meeting room to the left.
There are several ways to belong to Hesed, either as part of the Oblate Community, the Family Brothers and Sisters or the Extended Community. We have members who can provide you with spiritual direction as well.
