A method of prayer practiced by Christians throughout the ages and preserved by the Benedictine order is called Lectio Divina, meaning divine reading of sacred scripture, particularly the Bible, for the purpose of listening to God for a personal word or phrase. The practice of Lectio Divina is not necessarily to seek guidance on a specific issue, not to gather information, not to expand one’s theological base, not to buttress or refute an argument, but rather to make our selves available to God without an agenda, to let go.
